Derby Theatre Youth group double bill.

Derby Youth Theatre presents a stunning double bill at Derby Theatre. Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th July 2014.

Showing two plays in one evening that are unified by the themes of freedom and sacrifice Derby Theatre Youth Theatre will present their second production which will be a stunning production of The Willow Pattern by Judith Johnston and The Chrysalids by John Wyndham. The older youth theatre group will present The Willow Pattern, a classic tale of innocent yet forbidden love. Be transported to a vibrant and colourful land of the past to uncover the traditional tale of the angry Mandarin and his determined daughter Khoon - She.

The Chrysalids will be presented by the younger theatre group as a powerful story set in the post nuclear world - a place divided into perfect humans and mutants. A young hero and his friends are growing up in fear of hoping that nobody will ever know of their unique power of telepathy. Soon they face a choice, wait for eventual discovery or flee to a terrifying and immutable bad lands.

Derby Youth Theatre was formed towards the end of the year 2012 and consists of about fifty young people from across Derbyshire between the ages of eleven and eighteen. The group works with and alongside theatre professionals both in relation to the production and other theatre related workshops and activities.
